The Machine is Us/ing Us
I found that the youtube video "The Machine is is Us/ing Us" to be quite accurate. No more than ten years ago were we playing "Oregon Trail" and the wagon would disappear to get the next spot and just pop up, or you couldn't tell what was what because it was so pixelated. We are so much more advanced with our computers now; but, what does that really mean? How far are we willing to go? Are computers going to rule the world someday? What about robots? The youtube video starts off with hand writing and develops into html text which developed into what we use and see now. The world wide web used to be something that only a few people in the world had now it is not only an everyday use it is a basically a necessity. We got to mapquest and googlemaps for directions, we hardly ever pull out a real map. We go to www.yellowpages.com to find phone numbers, we hardly ever use the real book. So what does this mean for public relations? It makes it much more public, thats for sure. I think the future of PR is in the hands of video conference calls from the U.S. to China and another the same day to England and still be home for dinner at 6 pm. It is exciting to think of all this yet scary at the same time. What if you're just not tech savy? Then you pretty much have no chance of succeeding at a lot of professions let alone being a PR practitioner.
